Our story - How DEFY Wear Began…

My name is Kimberly Wren, and I was diagnosed with Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease in 2011 at the age of 41.

Parkinson’s affects a person’s ability to move their body properly, making tasks that other people never give any thought to, challenging at best.

I want to make getting dressed easier for those who struggle with neurological conditions, dexterity, and range of motion issues, so they can keep their dignity, privacy and independence for as long as possible.

A few years ago it had become extremely difficult for me to dress myself and often had to depend on my family for help. There were a few times that I even had to have my friends help me.  I hated not being able to do such basic things for myself any longer.  It made me feel like a burden,  stripped of my dignity and independence.

Coming to terms with no longer being able to do things that I once had been able to, is a long and painful process.  I felt like Parkinson’s had already taken so much from me already…I refused to allow it to take one more thing.

I was shocked that I was unable to find anything to help me!  So I came up with some designs on my own for adaptive undergarments that really helped me. It was important to me that they look nice and made me feel attractive and confident.

A few years later, knowing that I was not the only one within the Parkinson’s community that had the same struggle, I purchased my first sewing machine and I got to work.

At DEFY Wear we believe that you should NOT have to GIVE UP your Sense of Style... JUST because you have a DISEASE, DISABILITY or limitation!
